Updated | PlayStation 5 fans eagerly hop on the hype train as Official PlayStation Magazine sparks speculation of a PS5 reveal in May
Update April 29: Official PlayStation Magazine has taken to Twitter to make it clear that the information it published referred to the games for the PS5 and not a reveal event. However, a new source, a GamesBeat reporter posting on Resetera, now claims that a PS5 reveal event will take place on June 4.
With Sony seemingly starving fans of important PlayStation 5 information, gamers have taken it upon themselves to try to sniff out every vital detail about the next-gen console as possible. The latest sniffed-out item has been provided by the UK edition of Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM) and subsequently shared on social media.
The latest digital edition of the magazine features a page with the teasing headline text “PS5. It’s Coming.” The publishing date for the July issue of OPM is June 2, with the digital version being released slightly earlier. Regardless of the magazine’s popularity, Sony would not use its pages for giving the world a first proper look at the PS5. So it’s easy to see why many fans believe this means a PS5 reveal will take place in May.
However, the words on the OPM page continue: “The next gen starts next issue as we reveal the latest games coming to PlayStation 5, and how they’ll play”. PS5 fans are so eager to get a look at the console that any hint, right or wrong, seems to be enough to spark intense speculation. But OPM has stated there will be a good look at the games; there is no specific mention of a look at the console itself. Still, May does seem like a very good bet for a PS5 reveal event, but when exactly?
May 5 has been served up numerous times recently as a suggestion for a PS5 reveal date, but others feel that anxious fans will have to wait a few more weeks yet, toward the end of the month. Game enthusiast Tidux has now posted a short video clip on Twitter (see below) that shows the PlayStation logo being showered in celebratory confetti, which has led to some believing an announcement is due sooner rather than later, especially in light of the OPM page details.
