PS2 emulator for Android just got Material You theming

ARMSX2, one of the most capable PS2 emulators available on Android, has received a new update that adds Material You theming and several other features.

Version 2.6.4 of ARMSX2 was released on July 21, 2026. Its headline addition is support for Material You, Google's design language that pulls colors from a device's wallpaper and applies them across the system theme and supported third-party apps. Android Authority confirmed that ARMSX2 changes its color scheme when the wallpaper or system color options are switched.

Beyond Material You support, the update adds further theme options, including an RGB mode and a custom color picker. ARMSX2 can now play background music while users browse their game library, and users can download new virtual gamepad skins without leaving the app.

The update also introduces playtime and last-played metrics for each game. According to the changelog, these stats are not starting from zero. The app had already been tracking playtime and last-played data internally before the update, so existing figures carry over rather than resetting.

The Material You update follows a string of ARMSX2 releases over the past week. Those earlier updates delivered faster and more accurate CPU emulation, an optional multi-threaded GPU emulation mode aimed at improving performance at higher resolutions, and auto-save functionality.

Together, the recent updates mark a rapid stretch of development for ARMSX2, which has quickly built a reputation as one of the stronger PS2 emulator options for Android devices.
