Moving up to a 10x optical zoom factor in a smartphone is definitely one of the most radical changes in mobile camera technology of the last decade. Surprisingly enough, this comes from Chinese brand Oppo and it looks like the first handset with such a camera will be the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom.
While this handset has not been confirmed officially yet and might even launch under a different name — for example, Premium Edition sounds better than 10X Zoom, but if you think otherwise, feel free to share your thoughts in a comment — an exclusive article by Indiashopps reveals a set of renders that shows all there is to know: a third square camera on the back that is similar to what Oppo has shown at MWC 2019.
This premium edition of the Oppo Reno is expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, at least 6 GB of memory and 128 GB of internal storage, a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, and a 48 MP main camera setup that can go all the way up to a 10X optical zoom factor.
Oppo will hold a special Reno launch event in China today, so we should find out more about this handset in a matter of hours. However, such an event is also scheduled for April 24 in Switzerland, and we expect to get all the info regarding the international availability and pricing of the device then.
