Reviews for the Oppo A74
Oppo targets an ambitious goal with the A74: Equipped with a bright AMOLED display, a 48 MP triple-camera setup, and an XXL battery, the 6.43-inch smartphone, which officially costs 249 Euros (~$304), intends to compete with Samsung's successful Galaxy A series. In our review, we'll find out whether Oppo's mid-range smartphone has what it takes for this.

Overall, the OPPO A74 is a decent enough device thanks to its battery performance and lovely AMOLED display for your daily usage. It is however hampered by their choice of using a Snapdragon 662. That being said, the device is still considered an entry-level offering from the brand. If you don’t mind the some of the cons that were mentioned earlier and you fancy the design, there’s nothing wrong if you decide to go for it, especially at the price of RM899. I just wish it had a better chipset..

All in all, we feel that the OPPO A74 4G is worth its RM899 price tag. It has a few notable highlights, such as the AMOLED display, extended virtual RAM, and other camera features. But if compared to its competitors, it's lacking in some areas as well. For one, there is no ultrawide lens, the refresh rate is only 60Hz, and the performance is just so-so. Perhaps the only threat to the OPPO A74 4G is the POCO X3 Pro. Although it has a higher price tag of RM999, it sports a significantly more powerful Snapdragon 870 chipset and supports a refresh rate of 120Hz. To be honest, there is no real contest between the two. Of course, the choice is up to you. If you want to save some money and have modest needs, the OPPO A74 4G is still good enough for casual usage.

The A74 manages to bring a solid battery experience without compromising on either autonomy, charging, or even the screen definition. If you are not a gamer and if you are not looking for such features as 5G or higher than 60 Hz refresh rates, then the A74 should be able to satisfy most needs without having to worry about your battery life.

Retailing at RM899, the OPPO A74 is unfortunately not quite the value champ here considering some of its alternatives are offering more attractive specs and features, but in general this is a really decent mid-range phone you can’t go wrong with if you are familiar with OPPO’s clean software experience, furthermore I think it makes a pretty good fashion statement for those looking for a stylish device without spending over RM1000.

Oppo’s latest A Series offering, the Oppo A74, is another entry-level phone that punches well above its weight, giving phone users a taste of the high life without breaking the budget. Power users may prefer the likes of the Oppo Find X3 Pro, but the Oppo A74 has more than enough get up and go for enjoying FHD+ video. It also takes great photos for your social media accounts.

Speaking of price, we’re now down to our final thoughts. The OPPO A74 has an official price of PHP 11,999. With this, you get that dashing AMOLED display, massive battery, deliverable performance, and decent camera capabilities.

The OPPO A74 does its job as an affordable alternative to the A94 as we found in our review for the device in the Philippines, as it retains that gorgeous AMOLED display, in-display fingerprint scanner, and 48-megapixel main rear camera while being priced lower. While you lose an ultra-wide-angle camera (and 4K video recording), the A74 makes up for it by having a bigger battery that supports a more universal fast charging solution.

6.43":
It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.73.49%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
