OnePlus has announced new software updates for the 8 and 8 Pro. Their changelogs make no mention of typically desirable aspects of new OTAs such as security updates; all the same, some users of the high-priced flagships may be glad to see it coming.
This is because the updates are designed to "[optimize] the display effects" in either new phone. This loosely translates as a solution to a bug in which these devices' screens had a noticeably green cast in comparison to those of other premium AMOLED panels (particularly in the 8 Pro). One or two users now report that the newer software fixes this problem, whereas others assert it does not.
These new packages are known as OxygenOS 10.5.x for the 8 series. More specifically, those with the Pro variant should soon get a notification to install its 10.5.5 version (for all region-specific units of this phone). Those with EU units of the vanilla model, on the other hand, should look out for v.10.5.3 of the ROM, or 10.5.4 for the Indian or North American variants.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
