OnePlus 6 to feature under-display fingerprint sensor
Under-display fingerprint sensors have been a major pain-point in the smartphone industry, with OEMs yet to release a device with the feature. According to new information surfacing earlier, the next OnePlus device, the OnePlus 6, may feature that particular technology.
Last week, there were reports that the upcoming Vivo Xplay 7 would be the first device to come with that feature, with a demo video released a few months ago and a report on Forbes proving that the Chinese OEM is actually close to mass implementation. It's no surprise, then, that OnePlus may bring that same technology to their next flagship. We expect it to carry a moniker different from the Clear ID on Vivo's offering, though.
The company may market itself as a young startup but there have been substantial claims that point towards the company being a subsidiary of the much larger OPPO. It gets more interesting, even, as OPPO and Vivo are themselves subsidiaries of BBK Electronics, one of China's largest companies. That would make OnePlus corporate siblings of Vivo, which would also explain the presence of a technology—one yet to be perfected by juggernauts like Samsung, even—on a OnePlus device.
OnePlus devices are usually released in Spring, and the source claims the OnePlus 6 may be announced in March. There's nothing that says we won't get the technology on other devices before then, though, especially as CES and MWC would be held before the release of the next OnePlus device.
