OnePlus 10: MediaTek Dimensity 9000 powered flagship smartphone slated for a "limited release"
After the OnePlus 10 Pro's unveiling, an often-asked question was about its non-Pro sibling. OnePlus usually launched these in pairs, so one couldn't help but wonder what happened to the vanilla OnePlus 10. Tipster Yogesh Brar has heard that it is still in the pipeline, and it could pack some interesting hardware.
However, buying a OnePlus 10 could be a challenge, as it is slated for a "limited release". As its name suggests, it will be a watered-down version of the OnePlus 10 Pro, presumably with downgraded cameras. However, it could outperform its higher-priced sibling in raw performance, as the OnePlus 10 is rumoured to use a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC. It is one of the rare MediaTek processors that has been able to trade blows with, and even best similarly-specced offerings from Qualcomm.
Previous rumours speculated that the mid-range OnePlus 10R would use the high-end MediaTek SoC. Subsequent reports quashed that notion and said a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 would take its place. It makes sense because using the objectively better Dimensity 9000 on the OnePlus 10R would anger fans who bought the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered OnePlus 10 Pro.
Yogesh also adds that work on the OnePlus 10 Ultra is in "full swing". It is slated to be one of the first devices to run the TSMC-manufactured Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC. Qualcomm is expected to unveil the silicon in June 2022, and the OnePlus 10 Ultra's launch could happen a few weeks later.
