One of Bethesda's best FPS games is now free, but there's a catch

Bethesda and id Software's 2016 reboot of Doom is currently available for free, but there is an important restriction: claiming the game requires an active Amazon Prime subscription. The giveaway is available for approximately 24 hours, ending at an unspecified time on November 4. Players must also have a GOG account to redeem their code, although creating one is free.
Consequently, this is not quite the giveaway it might initially appear to be, particularly for those unwilling to pay for an additional subscription. On the other hand, interested gamers can also circumvent this by subscribing to a free, 30-day trial of Amazon Prime, claiming the game and then cancellng the trial. The game will remain in the user's Amazon library even after cancellation. This method does require a number of steps, but it will work and should only take 5-10 minutes, according to the author's own experience.
Originally released in 2016, Doom successfully revived the long-running franchise, earning an Metacritic score of 85%. Its fast-paced single-player campaign received considerable praise, although its less impressive multiplayer component was a notable weakness. The reboot helped reintroduce the series to a modern audience while retaining the aggressive combat that made the original games popular.
The game is a worthwhile addition to any FPS collection, particularly for newcomers who have not experienced the modern entries. With Doom still listed at $20 on many platforms, the promotion represents a decent saving for eligible Prime subscribers. The giveaway is only available until November 4, so interested players should act fast to claim their code before the limited-time promotion expires.
