Verdict - Smart high-power charger with stable output

The Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W is a capable charger that lives up to its promise of replacing multiple adapters. With its five-port configuration and support for PD3.1 140W on the USB-C1 and USB-C2, it can easily power laptops while recharging other devices.

Its smart display is genuinely useful, especially because it shows whether the connected devices are charging via PD protocol or not. However, the readings on the screen can be a bit off.

This charger is also relatively small in size, and the foldable plug makes it travel-friendly. However, it's not a lightweight charger, which is a given due to its 5-port configuration and 160W total power output.

Overall, it's a solid charger that has what it takes to replace multiple chargers on desk setups. The five-port configuration, paired with the wide high-power protocol support on most ports, makes it a good travel adapter as well.

Pros

+ Premium build with foldable plug
+ Stable power delivery under heavy multi-device loads
+ Smart display shows charging status and protocols
+ Wide fast-charging protocol support
+ Can power high-performance laptops via USB-C1/C2

Cons

- Smart display readings can be off by 1W to 2W
- Relatively heavy at around 360g

Ugreen released the refreshed Nexode Pro 160W (X774) with some notable upgrades. Compared to the last-gen variant (non-display), the newer one comes with a five-port configuration and has a smart display.

This port configuration makes the fast charger capable of charging pretty much all the essential electronics that one owns at the same time. The total 160W output rating also means that it can run power-hungry devices with ease. Of course, without good thermal and power output management, all these flashy specs would mean nothing, and the charger didn't disappoint.

The five-port Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W charger has a premium build

Ugreen ships the 5-port Nexode Pro 160W in a relatively minimal package, with the box carrying the charger and a detailed user manual. As for the power adapter, it features a premium build, and the foldable plug makes it quite travel-friendly.

Size-wise, the 160W charger measures around 1.4 inches thick (about 35.6mm), is around 3 inches in length (about 76.2mm), and measures about 3 inches in width (around 76.2mm). These measurements make it stand as a smaller power adapter than the Apple 140W USB-C charger.

Ugreen integrated a functional smart screen, but power readings can be inaccurate

A big highlight of the Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W is the integrated smart display. It offers all the key charging information, including the total output power, output from each of the ports, and the protocol used by each port. There's a touch capacitive button right next to the display that allows switching between these information tabs.

The screen can get bright enough for easy reading, and it automatically goes to sleep after staying on for a while. However, it doesn't offer fully accurate power output readings. We used the Fnirsi FNB58 to check the accuracy, and in one instance, the adapter was showing a power output of 51W, while the tester picked up around 49.5W. That means the readings can be off by 1-2W.

The charger is powerful enough to run a laptop while charging four other devices

Thanks to the five-port configuration, the charger can recharge pretty much all the essential devices at the same time. It's even possible to run a laptop while the other connected devices recharge. Of course, in such cases, the power output from the port that's connected to the laptop will depend on what's connected to the other devices.

The important part is that during our 1-hour test, we found that the five-port Nexode Pro 160W can deliver stable output to a connected laptop while recharging four other devices. In our test, the output from that specific port hovered around 56W to 58W. Check out the graph attached below to see how the voltage, current, and power stayed during this testing phase.

During the five-port charging phase, the charger did get warm, but it wasn't too hot to the touch. Ugreen also notes that the Nexode Pro 160W has a smart temperature control, which ensures stable charging during extended high-power output sessions.

Nonetheless, the adapter is capable enough to run a gaming laptop, but in such a setup, it's only possible to get a good gaming experience with the other ports being free. Among the three ports, the USB-C1 and C2 are mainly meant to run these power-hungry devices.

The five ports of Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W

Per the FNB58 tester, these two support PD3.1 with the max output being 140W. The USB-C3 can also power laptops, but it maxes out at 100W and has support for PD3.0. As for the USB-C4, it is mainly for phones and tablets, with the tester picking up support for PD3.0 with 30W max output. The USB-A port can also charge phones and tablets, but as the USB tester shows, it doesn't support PD.

All the ports have support for other protocols, but it's not the same for each one of them. Check out the captures from our USB protocol test to learn more.
