OWC Thunderbolt Pro Dock: A docking solution that supports monitors, memory cards and fast network connections
OWC is now offering a new docking solution, the Thunderbolt Pro Dock, which primarily focuses on wired network connections. For example, an Ethernet port with a maximum data transfer rate of 10 GBit/s is available, which allows for easy and fast access to network storage devices on the network. Connections to other notebooks or any other compatible system is established via Thunderbolt 3, whereby a connected system can be charged with up to 85 watts, provided this is supported by the connected device. The cables can be fastened with special plugs, which should reduce strain on the plug and cable.
Monitors can be connected via Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort 1.4, and image output to an 8K display at 60 Hz is possible. Alternatively, two 4K screens with this refresh rate can be connected. Classic USB devices can also be used: three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with a maximum data transfer rate of 10 GBit/s are on board, plus another USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with the same data transfer rate. Two memory card slots are available, supporting not only the use of classic SD cards, but also CFexpress 2.0-B cards.
The OWC Thunderbolt Pro Dock is compatible with devices based on macOS, Windows 11 and Windows 10, among others, and can also be used with iPads. The model is currently available at prices starting from $349.99.
A possible alternative with 2.5 GBit/s Ethernet: Buy the Belkin Connect Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station at Amazon.
