New study shows problems with Coros Pace 3 smartwatch heart rate accuracy
The Coros Pace 3 smartwatch’s heart rate accuracy has been tested in a new study. The5krunner conducted the experiment, comparing the performance of the Coros wearable against an Apple Watch, the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus and the Polar Verity Sense chest straps.
The study tested the wearables across various exercises, including easy and steady-state runs, interval training and cycling. The data from the two runs shows several discrepancies in readings compared to the measurements taken by the Apple, Garmin and Polar devices. The inaccuracy is also demonstrated with interval training and is seen particularly during or after higher-intensity exercise when the heart rate rapidly increases or decreases. The data closest to the comparison devices was seen on the shorter bike ride, with only one significant anomaly, but the longer journey showed many discrepancies.
As the5krunner notes, these analyses should be taken with a pinch of salt given the limited data set. The GPS accuracy of the Coros Pace 3 was also tested, and it had a strong performance compared to the other gadgets. The Pace 3 launched in August, a GPS smartwatch with a 1.2-in (~30 mm) transflective LCD. The new model has up to 24 days of battery life and sensors to monitor biometrics such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation and sleep quality. Other features include a thermometer, a digital compass and a barometer. You can buy the Coros Pace 3 smartwatch for $229.00.
