New iPhone 14 Pro Max CAD renders indicate design overhaul with 20% reduced bezels, pill-shaped Face ID notch, and thicker camera bump

We've been seeing several renders hinting about how Apple's upcoming iPhone 14 series would look like. The iPhone 14 Pro was shown to have a much-reduced notch and a square camera module similar to the iPhone 13 Pro. Now, CAD renders of the iPhone 14 Pro Max have surfaced revealing the phone's redesign and some of its dimensions.

From the renders, it looks like the iPhone 14 Pro Max will also sport a pill-shaped notch that houses the Face ID system along with a punch hole for the selfie camera. The pill-shaped cutout will have a length of 7.15 mm while the diameter of the punch hole will be 5.59 mm.

Taking cues from the CAD renders, the dimensions of the iPhone 14 Pro Max have also been estimated. The display size is expected to be the same as that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max at 6.7 inches. However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could feature an increased screen-to-body ratio owing to significantly reduced bezel thickness. While the predecessor sported 2.42 mm bezels, the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro Max is slated to reduce that by about 20% to 1.95 mm.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to sport dimensions of 160.7 mm (H) x 78.53 mm (W) x 12.16 mm (D). The back will once again sport a square camera housing with three cameras of which the main sensor is touted to be a 48 MP one. 

The rear camera housing could be slightly thicker at 13.85 mm owing to the increased megapixel count in the main camera. Estimates peg the rear flash to have a 6.9 mm diameter while the LiDAR sensor's diameter would be 6.5 mm.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will feature Apple's upcoming A16 Bionic chip while the non-Pro models will continue to use the A15 Bionic SoC. While a design change for the upcoming iPhone 14 series is welcome, the above information is still speculative and should be taken with a grain of salt.
