There’s a new DW-6900 heading to the Casio collab lineup, and it’s wrapped head to toe in matte black. Casio has just announced a fresh collaboration model for Japanese football club Montedio Yamagata - their third time working together - and it’s easily the most rugged-looking of the lot.
Set to drop on May 25 in Japan, this G-Shock stays loyal to the fan-favorite DW-6900UMS-1JF base but adds a few small changes that’ll catch the eye of seasoned G-Shock fans. You get the signature red-tinted reverse LCD, clean white LED backlight, and Montedio Yamagata’s crest tucked neatly on the strap. It doesn’t really shout for attention - and that’s probably the point.
The watch will be sold first through Montedio’s official merch booth at their home stadium. Online orders start June 1, via the team’s official store, and the price is locked at ¥19,800 (~$126). No word yet on whether it’ll get a wider release, but the phrasing so far suggests it might stay Japan-only.
Functionally, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a 6900: 200-meter water resistance, EL backlight, alarm, timer, stopwatch, and enough durability to outlast many current-gen smartphones. But what makes this one stand out is the restrained styling - all-black with barely-there branding - and the fact that it's tied to a J.League football club instead of the usual fashion label or anime franchise.
You can call it niche or regional, but this might quietly end up being one of the more wearable collab G-Shocks of the year.
