The Toyota Urban Cruiser, a new electric compact SUV, has been unveiled for Europe. Three versions of the EV have been announced, with front and all-wheel drive variants based on a new battery electric vehicle platform. The model will be shown early next year and is expected to launch later in 2025.

Toyota has unveiled the upcoming Urban Cruiser EV for the European market. This is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is said to have a spacious interior thanks in part to a sliding rear seat mechanism. The compact SUV is 4,285 mm (~168.7 inches) long, 1,640 mm (~64.6 inches) tall and has a 2,700 mm (~106.3 inches) wheelbase.

Urban Cruiser customers will be able to choose between three versions, all based on a new BEV platform. The entry-level EV has a front wheel drive (FWD) powertrain with 144hp and 189Nm torque, and a 49kWh battery. The second version is also FWD, with 174hp and 189Nm torque and a larger 61kWh battery. At the top of the range is an all-wheel drive model with 184hp, 300Nm torque and the larger 61kWh battery.

Further performance data, such as the estimated range, has yet to be announced. Features of the FWD version include a snow mode which adjusts the torque to reduce slip. Meanwhile, the AWD version has Downhill Assist Control and a Trail Mode to detect spinning wheels and brake accordingly. All versions will offer adaptive cruise control, collision detection system, lane keep assist and 360° cameras. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will be shown at the Brussels Motor Show 2025, running from January 10th to 19th. The, the electric SUV is expected to go on sale in the UK in the fall, though the price remains unclear.
