The most powerful Tesla Model 3 Performance is now the reigning champion of made-in-America cars among all vehicles, ICE or electric.

Tesla often points out how its cars are the most American out there to dispel with popular misconceptions about electric vehicles in general and its own portfolio in particular.

The fact is that most Teslas qualify for the federal made-in-America tax credit that discounts their price by $7,500 on account of the fact that their battery cells and pack are manufactured in the US.

Not only that, but Tesla makes most of the vehicles itself in its Gigafactories in places like Austin, TX or Fremont, CA, with parts sourced either locally, or from fellow North American countries.

When Tesla outed the Cybertruck, it even had it tow the other most American-made vehicle at the time, the Model Y, in a trailer reading that the "world's bestselling car is made in America." According to the chief Cybertruck engineer Wes Morrill, the pickup is assembled with about 90% North American parts, 65% sourced from the US or Canada, and 25% from Mexico.

Ditto for the Model Y, but the percentage of US and Canadian parts in there is 70%, with 20% of components sourced from Mexico, for the same end result.

Now the American University’s Kogod School of Business decided to dig deeper, and put those numbers to scrutiny, arriving at a similar conclusion as Tesla. It, however, ranked the Model Y Long Range as the second most American-made car with 85% "total domestic content" of parts, while the first place went to the Model 3 Performance that is made in Fremont, and has 87.5% of parts in it sourced locally.

In fact, Tesla vehicles occupy the top 5 places in the made-in-US ranking of Kogod, down to the Model S and Model X that are assembled with 80% local parts, while the Cybertruck is ranked third with 82%.

Next in line are several Ford Mustang GT, Honda Passport, and Jeep Wrangler versions, while the only other electric vehicle in the ranking is the ID.4 that is made in Volkswagen's US factory.

Thus, both according to third-party research, and Tesla's own analysis, it is the company that produces the most American-made vehicles, for those who consider that an important statistic, and by a large margin at that.
