Qalzy has officially launched as a new kind of kitchen scale - one that sees what you’re eating, weighs it, and logs the full nutritional breakdown to your app in a single press. It combines a built-in AI camera with a precision digital scale and syncing features that let it track both macros and calories without manual input. The product is now live on Kickstarter with an early bird price of $169.
At the heart of Qalzy is an OpenAI-powered food recognition system that identifies ingredients on the plate, whether they’re raw, cooked, or part of a mixed meal. The scale also factors in weight to provide accurate calorie tracking, going beyond what traditional photo-based nutrition apps offer. From there, it syncs data straight to the Qalzy app.
The device auto-tares between ingredients, scans multiple items at once, recognizes branded foods, and can log data via voice through Alexa. The tempered glass top is splash-proof and easy to clean, and an LED flash is present for recognition in low-light kitchens. Battery life is rated for 10 hours per charge, with USB-C fast charging support.
In terms of design, the scale is quite slim and minimal, with a 2MP camera, touch-sensitive controls, and support for both metric and imperial units. The platform measures up to 5kg with ±1g accuracy. It also works without a phone nearby - scans are uploaded to the cloud and can be reviewed later.
Qalzy’s founders, Kostas Koukoravas and Michael Michelis, come from a mix of AI and nutrition backgrounds. Their goal, according to the team, is to eliminate the friction that causes most people to abandon calorie tracking after just a few days.
The Kickstarter campaign for Qalzy is now live, with a retail price set at $269. Early backers can get it for $169. A demo video is available below.
If you'd rather have a non-AI kitchen scale with a similar set of features, you can check out the significantly cheaper KitchenAid KQ909 dual platform digital kitchen and food scale on Amazon (curr. priced at $36.49).
