Motorola Moto X40: New leak confirms forthcoming North American release
Motorola is preparing to release the Moto X40 in other markets, having released the smartphone last December in China. As we have discussed separately, the Moto X40 will launch in Europe as the Edge 40 Pro. While Motorola has not confirmed that this is the case, the device has appeared on the Google Play Console under that moniker. Additionally, various high-quality renders have leaked online sporting 'Edge 40 Pro' rather than Moto X40.
Now, Motorola has submitted the Edge Plus (2023) to the Google Play Console, which will succeed last year's model of the same name. In short, the Edge Plus (2023) listing shares all characteristics with its Edge 40 Pro counterpart. Thus, the Edge Plus (2023) and Edge 40 Pro are variants of the same device, which is underlined by Motorola's use of the same device image across both listings.
If the Edge Plus (2022) is anything to go by, then Motorola will only offer the Edge Plus (2023) in North America. While North American pricing has not surfaced yet, leaked European pricing could indicate how much the Edge Plus (2023) will cost, though. Reputedly, the Edge 40 Pro will retail for €899 in the Eurozone with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Despite being a €100 uplift on the Edge 30 Pro, recent exchange rates imply that Motorola will retain the US$999 launch price of the Edge Plus (2022) for its successor. The company initially offered the Edge Plus (2022) for US$899, although the device now sells for US$499.99. Release dates for the Edge 40 Pro and Edge Plus (2023) remain unknown for now, but Motorola is likely to announce the pair simultaneously.
