Initial details about the Moto G Play (2022) have leaked online, courtesy of 91mobiles and Evan Blass. Arriving alongside a similar leak for the Edge X40, the Moto G Play (2022) is expected to be a much cheaper option than Motorola's next flagship smartphone. Although it remains unclear when Motorola will unveil the Moto G Play (2022), Blass' leak highlights that the company has made several changes from last year's model.
Specifically, Motorola has updated the Moto G Play to the design language it has used across its entire product portfolio this year. Additionally, Blass claims that the Moto G Play (2022) will arrive with the MediaTek Helio G37, eschewing the Snapdragon 460 in its predecessor. Moreover, the 2022 edition has a 6.5-inch IPS display with a centred punch-hole for a 5 MP front-facing camera.
Seemingly, the 1,600 x 720-pixel panel is the same one in the Moto G Play (2021). However, Motorola has moved away from using a waterdrop notch. Furthermore, the upcoming handset has 16 MP primary, 2 MP depth and 2 MP macro rear-facing cameras. Separately, Blass alleges that Motorola will offer the Moto G Play (2022) with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 10 W charging, plus 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Moto G Play (2022) will launch with Android 12, not Android 13.
