Minisforum S100 launches as pocket-sized mini PC that doesn’t need a power plug
Minisforum has officially launched the S100 with a promotional price of $189. It’s a light and pocket-sized mini PC that you can take with you everywhere. Now, given the small size, the company couldn’t really fit a powerful CPU inside it.
It’s powered by a 6-watt Intel N100, a quad-core processor that doesn’t have HyperThreading. This CPU is paired with 8 GB of LPDDR5 memory that runs at 4800 Mhz in single-channel mode. The small nature of the Minisforum S100 also means that there’s limited space for a storage drive. So, the company had to resort to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
While Minisforum S100 is pocket-sized, it does incorporate a cooling system. This mini computer has a small fan that’s attached to a heatsink. The company says that it can run at just 24 dB when it’s idle and peaks at 43 dB when it’s under full load. Speaking of running it, you won’t need a dedicated power cable.
The S100 mini PC has support for power over Ethernet (PoE). It also has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port that you can use to power the mini PC. Other ports include two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and one HDMI 2.0 port. For wireless connectivity, it brings Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6.
Besides, it has support for dual 4K display outputs and comes with Windows 11 Home operating system pre-installed. Given the specs, the Minisforum S100 seems to be suitable for digital signage, education environments, and small workspaces that don’t need high computing power.
