Microsoft teases another Surface device on May 23
The dust from #MicrosoftEDU, where the Redmond company debuted its take on the laptop form-factor, has barely settled — and yet it looks like another Surface device might be coming soon. Vice President of Devices Panos Panay took to twitter to tease another Surface event on May 23 in Shanghai, China.
"On May 23 in Shanghai, Microsoft will show the world what's next", says the official site for the event. Panay's tweet and the cryptic message are certainly tailored to make fans' minds spin; a new Surface Book, Surface Pro, and even Surface Phone are certainly products that are eagerly awaited. However, a Surface Phone is extremely unlikely at this point. Microsoft has previous signaled that they're interested in introducing new form-factors, and they wouldn't simply debut a smartphone unless it was something transformative. Such a product is unlikely at this point. A new Surface Book, perhaps with Pascal graphics and Thunderbolt 3, does sound tantalizing. However, given the company's latest snub of the USB Type-C standard in the Surface Laptop, that might be hoping for too much. A Kaby Lake update to the Surface Pro 4 seems like the safe bet to make at the moment, according to the rumor mill — but we certainly wouldn't mind a big surprise.
