Microsoft releases new 13-inch laptop with Snapdragon X2 Elite and 64 GB RAM

Under a month has passed since Microsoft refreshed its Surface Laptop range with the Surface Laptop 8 for Business. As with its Surface Laptop 7 predecessor, the Surface Laptop 8 for Business utilised Intel processors to maintain full x86 compatibility. Now, the company has returned with a successor to the ARM-based Surface Laptop 7 13.8 we reviewed over two years ago (curr. $814.99 - refurbished on Amazon).
Seemingly, an unchanged PixelSense Flow display returns, which outputs at 2,304 x 1,536 pixels with a 201 PPI, a 120 Hz refresh rate and 600 nits peak brightness. An IPS panel, rumours of an OLED alternative appear to have been wide of the mark. Setting that aside, this 120 Hz display works with either a Snapdragon X2 Plus (10-core) or Snapdragon X2 Elite (12-core) chipset and 16 GB, 24 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
Moreover, the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop continues to support a removable SSD. Microsoft has packaged all this hardware inside a 301 x 220 x 17.5 mm housing that weighs 1.36 kg and comes in a choice of Black, Dune, Jade and Platinum finishes. Reportedly, the new 13.8-inch Surface Laptop should last up to 20 hours on a single charge, too.
Pricing starts at $1,599 for the Snapdragon X2 Plus-powered model and rises by $100 for a Snapdragon X2 Elite-powered alternative. It is worth noting that the Surface Laptop 8 13.8 can only be ordered with 64 GB of RAM when configured in a Black finish. Also, Microsoft has released a 15-inch version of the Surface Laptop 8 today. Please see our corresponding launch article for more details about the company's latest 15-inch laptop.
