Microsoft compares Copilot+ PCs to popular 5-year-old PCs, highlighting performance and battery improvements
Microsoft unveiled the AI-powered Copilot+ PCs in May. Apart from the AI capabilities, the Copilot+ PCs are also said to offer performance and battery life improvements. In Microsoft's official blog post, the tech giant claims that Copilot+ PCs are the 'fastest and most intelligent' Windows PCs ever built.
A new report from Windows Latest reveals that Microsoft compared its Copilot+ PCs with the popular Windows PCs from 5 years ago. While Microsoft didn't disclose the exact models and specifications of the 5-year-old PCs used for comparison, they were selected based on the company's internal usage data that identified devices with 'the most monthly active use.' The Copilot+ PCs used in the tests are powered by the Snapdragon X Elite 12 core and Snapdragon X Plus 10 core configurations.
The comparison focused on performance and battery life. For performance testing, Microsoft utilized the Cinebench 2024 Multi-Core benchmark tool. The benchmark reveals that the Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs perform five times faster than the most popular 5-year-old Windows PCs.
In local video playback tests, Microsoft observed that Copilot+ PCs deliver up to 2.3 times longer battery life. While in web browsing tests, Microsoft claims the Copilot+ PCs deliver up to three times longer battery life compared to the older models. All devices in these tests used the same Wi-Fi connection and a display brightness of 150 nits.
These results show that Copilot+ PCs are not just focusing on AI advancements but also improvements in other aspects. Speaking of AI features, Microsoft has not yet launched AI features like Recall and Click to Do. However, the company has promised to bring these features by early next year.
