Pre-orders for Microsoft’s most affordable Windows 10 Mobile smartphone, the Lumia 550, already started a couple of weeks ago. Today, Microsoft finally announced the new handset’s immediate availability for purchase.
Microsoft Lumia 550 features a 4-7-inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution. The device is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor clocked at 1.1 GHz, accompanied by 1 GB of RAM. Nearly half of the 8 GB of on-board storage is taken by the Windows 10 Mobile operating system but, fortunately, the handset comes with a micro-SD card slot, allowing to increase the amount of storage space up to 128 GB.
The handset features a 5 MP main camera with LED flash, capable of capturing 720p video @ 30 fps, as well as a 2 MP selfie snapper on the front. Inside the 10-mm thick, matte black or glossy white polycarbonate body there’s also a 2,100 mAh battery. The smartphone also supports 4G LTE, reaching download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and uploads of up to 50 Mbps.
The Lumia 550’s price has been set to $130 (€125) in “select markets”. Microsoft hasn’t disclosed yet exactly which markets are meant.
