The Mi 5X was an unexpected release by Xiaomi this year. The launch of the device was preceded by rumors of a new "Lanmi" smartphone line, but that turned out to be false, with Xiaomi announcing the novel 5X immediately after, and marketing it as a mid-range camera phone to rival OPPO and Vivo's offerings. The successor of the 5X may be coming soon, as a supposed image of the device's TPU case has surfaced online.
Leaks like these aren't usually anything to place stock in but the source, Slashleaks, tends to be accurate most of the time. According to the image, the device will sport a dual rear camera placement identical to the iPhone X's—vertically aligned, on the left. The Mi 5X also featured dual rear cameras but the placement was horizontal.
The Mi 5X, a fine device in its own right, was helplessly outclassed by its sibling, the Mi A1—a device running on exactly the same hardware as the 5X but with Google's stock Android instead of Xiaomi's MIUI skin. Considering the success of the Mi A1, it would be surprising if Xiaomi doesn't offer a successor. We're a tad curious what that potential device would be named, though, as the "A1" in its predecessor's name stands for " Android One".
