The Xiaomi Mi A1 has been around since September, but it already became a very popular mid-range handset in many markets. Launched as the first Android One Xiaomi smartphone, the Mi A1 has the same specs as the MIUI-loaded Redmi 5X but runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.
Although it offers a lot for its price, the color options of the Xiaomi Mi A1 are far from enough - there is no silver, no blue, and until recently there was no red, either. Now, the Xiaomi Mi A1 Special Edition brings red into the equation. Sadly, this color option is only available in Indonesia for now.
The technical specs of the Xiaomi Mi A1 Special Edition are the same as that of its black, gold, and rose gold siblings: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage, a dual-camera setup with two 12 MP cameras that offers 2X optical zoom and a nicely done portrait mode, all powered by a 3,080 mAh battery. Obviously, providing all these for a price below US$250 was not easy, and some might not enjoy the selfies provided by the 5 MP front camera or being forced to choose between the dual-SIM capability and the use of the micro SD slot.
All in all, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is widely considered the best choice in its price range. Now, the red variant makes it even more attractive. With a bit of luck, maybe Xiaomi decides to launch it in blue as well, but before that, we should see the Mi A1 Special Edition reach new markets.
