The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 debuted in December last year but took months to find its way into actual smartphones on store shelves. Performance-wise, the MediaTek chip has been a resounding success, and fans will be glad to hear that a successor is on the way.
While currently unconfirmed, public opinion seems to lean towards the Dimensity 9000's successor being the Dimensity 9100. There is a chance, of course, that it could be the Dimensity 10000. According to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, MediaTek is already "testing" the Dimensity 9100. That likely just means the chipset is in development, which is about expected.
The next-gen MediaTek flagship SoC will debut at the end of the year and will be built on a TSMC node. Earlier rumors claimed the chipset would be the first to adopt TSMC's 3 nm process. That may be unlikely, though, as both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are expected to be built on the Taiwanese company's 4 nm process.
