The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is scheduled to debut in November as Qualcomm's next-gen premium chipset. The Qualcomm chip will go up against Apple's A16 Bionic and MediaTek's successor to the Dimensity 9000 series, and it now seems Qualcomm could have an edge on one of those fronts.
According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will outperform MediaTek's next-gen flagship chipset. The leaker fails to state the name of the MediaTek chipset, potentially indicating that the SoC's branding is still up in the air. We reckon it could be Dimensity 9100 or Dimensity 10000, however.
While the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 outperformed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Qualcomm managed to claw its way back to top spot in the Android market thanks to a switch to TSMC's 4nm process for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. MediaTek, of course, replied with the Dimensity 9000+ but that chipset still lags behind the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, particularly in the GPU department. If the source is accurate, Qualcomm's advantage will carry over to the next generation of flagship chipsets, as both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and MediaTek's Dimensity 9000 successor will likely be built on the same TSMC node.
