Maxsun MS-MoDT 230H D4 and 205H D4 affordable motherboards with integrated Raptor Lake-H chips and DDR4 RAM get tested

Laptop-grade SoCs mated to mini-ITX or micro-ATX motherboards are nothing new. Setups like this can save space or cut power bills significantly compared to conventional builds; sometimes, they deliver a solid bang for one's buck as well. Intel does sell T-variants of many of its desktop processors, optimized for lower power consumption as a solution to the same problem, though, while AMD does not seem as eager to do the same.
MySKU forum user emtec92 has tested two such motherboards, namely, an MS-MoDT 230H D4 Wi-Fi (Maxsun link) and an MS-MoDT 205H D4 Wi-Fi (Maxsun link). Like their names imply, they come with 200-series Intel laptop SoCs, set to consume 85 W by default, with an easy way to increase the value if needed. Both motherboards feature largely the same designs, with the SoC being the first key difference, and a passive cooling solution for power circuitry being the second one, as it is only present on the costlier model.
Key specs of the motherboards are listed below. Neither has a single USB-C port, which is perplexing considering this is 2026, not 2016.

After having some hands-on time with the boards, emtec92 naturally ran some benchmarks. While Notebookcheck has not, unfortunately, tested a single laptop or mini-PC with a Core 5 205H or a core 7 230H, we do have plenty of benchmark scores for the 210H and the 240H, largely similar processors running essentially the same 8-core, 12-thread and 10-core, 16-thread core configurations.

It appears the motherboards do not come with performance compromises, being up there in the same league with solid entry-level and mid-range gaming laptops, even outgunning them occasionally.
