Information about laptops powered by Intel’s 8th generation CPUs has started to surface already, and it is only natural we see a drop in price for the current generation models. MSI was quick to slash the prices and now offers the PL62 laptop powered by Intel’s high-end 4-core i7-7700HQ with 3.8 GHz boosted clocks for only $799 on Amazon.
Looking at the specifications, the PL62 could pass as a gaming laptop, since MSI decided to include Nvidia’s latest MX150 dedicated GPU in the mix. The MX150 should be able to handle triple-A games on low settings and offer decent video and photo editing acceleration, with its 2GB VRAM. In the display department, we find a 15.6” IPS-level screen that offers wide view angles and 1080p resolution, with 94% NTSC color coverage. In order to keep the price as low as possible, MSI included only 8 GB of DDR4-2400 RAM (upgradeable to 32 GB) and a 5400 RPM 1 TB hard drive.
Special features include the Cooler Boost 4 internal design that maximizes the airflow for the CPU and GPU, a white backlight Steel Series keyboard, plus 4 Dynaudio Tech speakers, while the connectivity part is handled by 3 USB 3.0 ports, one of which is Type-C.
I first stepped into the wondrous IT&C world when I was around seven years old. I was instantly fascinated by computerized graphics, whether they were from games or 3D applications like 3D Max. I'm also an avid reader of science fiction, an astrophysics aficionado, and a crypto geek. I started writing PC-related articles for Softpedia and a few blogs back in 2006. I joined the Notebookcheck team in the summer of 2017 and am currently a senior tech writer mostly covering processor, GPU, and laptop news.
