MSI's WS-series of mobile workstations are actually gaming notebooks is disguise, directly derived from the popular G-series. Today, MSI has unveiled the WS65 Mobile Workstation powered by the Intel Core i9-8950HK CPU and the NVIDIA Quadro P4200 GPU.
The MSI WS65 is a workstation variant of the GS65 Stealth Thin. The GS65 Stealth Thin offered great performance for the price albeit with a creaking chassis. The WS65 features the same ultra-thin chassis but we hope that MSI has paid attention to the build quality considering this is being touted as a mobile workstation. The WS65 also inherits the ultra-thin bezels of the GS65 Stealth Thin along with the 82 Wh battery.
Earlier this year, MSI launched a slew of workstation-class laptops but those systems did not offer a Core i9 option. The WS65 has processor options up to the Intel Core i9-8950HK and GPU options up to the NVIDIA Quadro P4200. The 15.6-inch FHD display covers 72% of the NTSC color gamut (equivalent to 100% sRGB) and we hope the panel offers the same color accuracy as the GS65 Stealth Thin. Connectivity options are fully loaded including 3 USB 3.1 Type-A ports, 1 USB 3.1 Type-C port, 1 HDMI 2.0 port, 1 mDP 1.4 port, mic-in, and a headphone jack. A PCIe SSD/SATA combo and a PCIe SSD are available for storage.
With the launch of the WS65, MSI is also unveiling its new logo for workstation laptops to better appeal to the business crowd. The MSI WS65 is on display at the NVIDIA Booth No. 801 at SIGGRAPH 2018 currently underway in Vancouver, Canada. The laptop will be available this September. Pricing and specific SKUs are yet to be announced.
