It’s OK to hope for more — especially with a $3,899 price tag. But that’s not to say the MSI Stealth 18 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport comes damn close to being an unstoppable luxury gaming laptop. The GPU power is packed into a slim, sexy body with all kinds of racing heritage baked in, and that screen is a marvel to any eyes. But with a Meteor Lake-shaped flat tire, how long will it be before you need to dive into the pits for Lunar Lake?

This may be meant as a gaming laptop, but its combination of some of the best components currently out there means it’s a creator’s dream too. It’s enormous, can get hot and loud and shouldn’t be used on your lap, but it carries an excellent screen to complement its processing power.

The MSI Stealth 18, as tested in this HX Intel variant, does exactly what it says on the tin – with the key caveat that the tin has been sensibly priced. It's not the smallest laptop you could find, even in the 18-inch category, but there are only a handful of alternatives that come slimmer with the same spec. That means those looking for a gaming laptop delivering 1440p/4K output that don't shout about their status from the rooftops should pay attention, as this is a great premium option.

17.00: This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.79 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
2.89 kg:
83.25%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
