The Logitech MX Master 3S (from $119 on Amazon) is almost three years old now, and Logitech is finally planning a successor. Specifically, Tecnoblog discovered that the MX Master 4 with the model number MR0118 was certified by the Brazilian telecommunications agency Anatel on May 9. Meanwhile, Logitech has already published a first picture of the MX Master 4 on Instagram.
This image was evidently posted by mistake and quickly deleted, but not before a savvy Reddit user took a screenshot. The picture in question is embedded below and shows that the design of the mouse hasn’t changed much. The thumb scroll wheel has been moved slightly forward, the left and right mouse buttons occupy slightly more space on top, while the texture of the thumb rest and the overall shape of the mouse have been slightly revised. So far, it’s unknown what kind of technical upgrades and improvements the Logitech MX Master 4 will offer.
That said, there’s arguably room for improvement in quite a few places. Most notably, the Logitech MX Master 3S has a polling rate of just 125Hz via Bluetooth and the USB dongle, which can feel sluggish on fast monitors with refresh rates of 240Hz or more. Additionally, the Darkfield laser sensor works on many surfaces such as glass, but has a resolution of only 8,000 DPI. At just under 5 oz, the MX Master 3S also weighs more than twice as much as some high-end gaming mice. Lastly, Logitech doesn’t offer the option to store the USB dongle inside the mouse, which can be practical when transporting or using the mouse on the go.
