Update April 27: Lenovo customers in the UK (and some other countries) can configure these IdeaPad laptops with numerous other components, including the processor. For example, the IdeaPad 5 15 can also be fitted with a Ryzen 5 4600U (+£30), Ryzen 7 4700U (+£70), or Ryzen 7 4800U APU (+£100).
Original story:
New laptops featuring APUs from AMD’s highly praised Ryzen 4000 “Renoir” series have started appearing in Lenovo’s online store. Currently, the US website has two SKUs for interested potential buyers to choose from. There is the 14-inch IdeaPad 5 with the Ryzen 5 4500U for US$649.99, and there is the 15.6-inch model with the same processor that costs from US$689.99. Both laptops come with 8 GB RAM, but the 15.6-inch Lenovo IdeaPad 5 comes with a larger SSD: 512 GB vs. 256 GB.
Shoppers in the UK can also get their hands on one of AMD’s latest and greatest APUs by selecting a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15 that comes with either a 6-core Ryzen 5 4500U or the cheaper 4-core Ryzen 5 4300U. As well as core count, the Renoir processors also differ in cache (8 MB vs. 4 MB) and clock rates (2.3 GHz - 4.0 GHz vs. 2.70 GHz - 3.7 GHz), and it might be a wise purchase for British buyers to plump for the higher-specced Ryzen 5 4500U, especially as it comes in the much better IdeaPad laptop model overall.
For £544.99 (US$674), the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15 with the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U also has more RAM (8 GB vs. 4 GB), a larger SSD (256 GB vs. 128 GB), a better display (IPS vs. TN), and it comes with a fingerprint reader. The SKU with the AMD Ryzen 3 4300U costs from £404.99 (US$501). Lenovo customers in Germany can also select between the same two Ryzen 4000 APUs, but they have more choices in regard to laptop model and can pick from a range of AMD-powered IdeaPad 3 and IdeaPad 5 devices from just €419 (US$453).
