AMD laptops used to be seen as alternatives or second choices to the usual Intel ones. More recently, however, their Ryzen series of processors has actually made them comparable and neck-to-neck with the best that Intel has to offer. Buying an AMD model no longer means "settling" with a slower-performing system.
The latest AMD laptop deal involves the 15.6-inch Lenovo IdeaPad 3 for $380 USD down from its original price of $500. The configuration comes with the last generation Ryzen 5 3500U CPU which is still comparable to the more common Intel Core i5-8565U or Core i7-10510U in raw processor horsepower. RAM is low at just 8 GB, but this is thankfully expandable if users want to add more. The laptop even includes a 2.5-inch SATA III bay for additional storage capacity.
Perhaps the biggest drawback to the IdeaPad 3 is its average 1080p display. Color space is narrow at just 55 percent of sRGB and the contrast ratio is shallow at just ~300:1. There is no USB-C port, either. This is one of Lenovo's entry-level laptops, after all.
