Numerous spy shots and images of the Panasonic Lumix S1RII camera have surfaced, including one from a special event showcasing the device to select guests, and a couple that were apparently accidentally leaked in a YouTube review video. The image from the event, shared by L-rumors, is quite blurry but has been apparently confirmed as the real deal. An article accompanying the spy shot offers some information about the Lumix S1RII, such as it being a similar size (and appearance) to the Lumix S5II (curr. available on Amazon), having a multi-angle display, and, as can be seen in the image (posted below), possessing a red button on the top right-hand side for instant video-recording control.
Further Panasonic Lumix S1RII specs are provided in a video posted by Andrea Pizzini, who states that the camera will be announced on February 25. According to the clip, the S1RII will have a new sensor in the form of a 44 MP unit that is speculated could be the IMX366AJK CMOS image sensor from Sony. In addition, the L-mount mirrorless camera will have a 40 FPS electronic shutter, 10 FPS mechanical shutter, 8 stops of image stabilization, open gate (recording from the full sensor area), and 1.5 seconds pre-capture (compare with pre-capture of up to one second for the Sony Alpha 1 II). Interestingly, the Panasonic Lumix S1RII price is expected to be around $3,500 – so it’s a lot of spec for a potentially market-disrupting price.
Three more photos have surfaced that claim to be of the Lumix S1RII (S1R Mark 2). There is one provided by K&F Concept that shows the release date and the camera mostly under wraps, and two others were shared on Reddit by u/One_Brain1244 that came from a gimbal video review. The screenshots show a camera that certainly looks similar to the one in the leaked blurred shot of the Panasonic Lumix S1RII, and the channel later uploaded a re-edited video that blurs out the camera being used, adding to the likelihood of it being the soon-to-be-released Lumix S1RII. Considering the Sony Alpha 1 II currently costs $6,499 on the official website, it’s easy to see why photography/camera afficionados are getting excited about the S1RII.
