A new Panasonic Lumix GH7 leak claims that the upcoming premium M4/3 camera will be priced at $2,200 in the US. There is also talk of 5.8K open gate video recording and internal ProRes RAW recording, while leaked images reveal a nearly identical body to the outgoing GH6.

The Panasonic Lumix GH7 recently appeared in leaks suggesting a June 5 release date, and a new premier placeholder teaser on YouTube confirms that Panasonic will be announcing something on June 5 at 10 PM UCT (GMT). According to prolific leaker Andrea Pizzini, the upcoming announcement will indeed be for the Panasonic Lumix GH7.

In a video posted to Pizzini's YouTube channel (embedded below), he also releases some previously unknown information about the upcoming Lumix GH7. Most notable in the latest round of leaks is the MSRP, which will supposedly be around $2,200 in the US. It's unclear what the European pricing will be, but somewhere in the neighbourhood of €2,200–2,500 seems likely, given pricing trends in the camera market.

Also in the leaks are supposed images of the Lumix GH7, revealing that basically nothing has changed from the Lumix GH6, in terms of the design language, control scheme, or ergonomics. Additionally, the leak provides some indication of specifications and features, which include internal ProRes RAW recording as well as open-gate 4K video at up to 120 fps and 5.8K — also open-gate — video at 25 and 30 fps.

The new camera will also carry support for Panasonic's new LUT feature and accompanying Lumix Lab app, making creative casual shooting somewhat easier. Pizzini also claims that the leaks confirmed the Lumix GH7's use of the same 27 MP sensor in the Panasonic Lumix G9 II (curr. $1,897 on Amazon), which would be a significant step up for videographers looking for better autofocus performance than the GH6's Depth-from-Defocus system.

Panasonic's YouTube teaser caption, however, reads “New Phase @Cine Gear,” leading some to speculate that what Panasonic will be launching later today may not be a hybrid GH7 at all. Rather, the suspicion is that Panasonic will launch a more dedicated video body, instead.
