The LG gram 15 carries out the firm’s legacy of ultra-light, large-screen laptops with style and impressive engineering. However, there are other, more versatile options out there that do more for less and are just as stylish.

The new LG gram lineup is impressive insofar as weight and portability are concerned. We can't think of any notebooks in their respective categories that even come close to the weight of these gram notebooks. It is all the more impressive when you consider that despite being so thin and light, LG hasn't sacrificed much in the way of usability and practicality. These notebook all have full-size USB and HDMI ports.

LG’s latest 15.6-inch Gram is incredibly light, but it falls behind when it comes to itsdisplay quality. It’s ideal if you value weight above all else, but you’ll likely be better off with a slightly heavier competitor.

Overall, the new gram notebooks are easily the lightest and most portable notebooks that we have ever tested. Some old problems still remain, but if portability is your utmost priority, the gram notebooks are pretty hard to beat. They offer a lot of portability, but with relatively very little compromises.

LG Gram 15Z975
LG has unveiled new LG Gram laptop systems with Intel’s 8th generation processors. The manufacturer is providing users with ultra-lightweight touchscreen laptops in two different screen sizes offering both a 13.3 and a 15.6-inch version. The LG Gram 15Z975 laptop is equipped with a 60 Wh battery capable of providing up to 11.8 hours of use from a single charge and weighs just 1.13 kg (2.5 lbs). The sleek metal alloy body of the LG Gram combines advanced nano carbon with magnesium to create a lightweight yet durable housing for the computer that's still beautifully thin at less than 1.78 cm (0.7 inch) thick. The cutting-edge design gives the LG gram laptop a roomy 15.6-inch Full HD IPS touchscreen display. It offers exceptional clarity from virtually any angle and is ideally sized for work or play. For performance and processing power, this LG Gram 15 comes with the 8th generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor, Windows 10 Home, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. There are no discrete GPU options and the processor is unable to maintain its maximum Turbo Boost for very long. The integrated UHD Graphics 620 provides no significant improvements over the HD Graphics 620 found on 7th generation ULV Core ix CPUs. Thus, even the aging GeForce 930MX is almost 60 percent faster than the LG Gram 15. However, fan noise is generally low, and both storage and RAM are surprisingly upgradeable. The ergonomically designed keyboard of the LG Gram is now backlit with adjustable brightness to be easier to use than ever in a variety of different environments, even in darkened rooms. The Gram is one of the few touchscreen-enabled notebooks which do not utilize edge-to-edge glass protection. It relies on thin glossy plastic instead. As a result, the screen feels fragile when tapping with a finger when compared to typical Android tablets or convertible notebooks. The forced glossy panel is also disadvantageous for reducing glare since brightness levels are only average. These cutbacks reduce the overall weight of the system at the cost of rigidity. However, the Gram's Reader Mode provides optimal reading conditions by minimizing unpleasant blue light, thereby reducing eye fatigue. Surprisingly, the Gram 15Z975 is able to incorporate most of the essential ports in spite of its light weight. Its three USB Type-A ports, in particular, are notable as more and more Ultrabooks are dropping this particular feature in favor of thinner form factors. Nonetheless, it would have been great to see a full-size SD reader and USB Type-C charging instead of the proprietary AC adapter port. It is worth noting that the latest Gram 15Z980 refresh has updated the USB Type-C Gen.1 port on the 15Z975 to Thunderbolt 3 for an even wider range of connectivity options. The 15-inch LG Gram isn't the fastest 8th-generation quad-core laptop we've tested, but it's certainly one of the lightest, and its stellar battery life makes up for its modest performance shortfalls. The Gram's cramped keyboard takes getting used to, however, and budget-conscious laptop shoppers may balk at the $2,000 price tag.

The LG gram 15 might look and feel the same as before but comes with a number of upgrades including 8th-gen Intel, more storage, a fingerprint scanner and Thunderbolt 3. It's amazingly light and offers excellent battery life too. However, all of this comes at a very high price (especially in the UK) and you can get similar packages at much lower cost with laptops like the Microsoft Surface Laptop and Lenovo Yoga 920.

All in all, there are definitely good reasons to grab the gram 15, particularly if mobility is a priority for you, thanks to how light it is and how long the battery lasts. It usually costs $1,999 with a 1TB SSD, but that variant is currently discounted to $1,699 on LG's website, making it a much better deal.

This Core i5 saw the light of day in H2 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops. The CPU cores run at 1.0 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The Sunny Cove microarchitecture that is in use here is notable for several improvements over Skylake including support for new technologies, new instruction sets and fast LPDDR4-3733 RAM. There is no PCIe 4 support here, however.
i7-1065G7: Ice Lake-based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced on first-gen 10 nm Intel process.
Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-1165G7: An upper mid-range, quad-core processor of Tiger Lake product family. The i7 is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops; it is manufactured on Intel's third-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin. The CPU cores run at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). This i7 features the 96 EU Intel Iris Xe G7 iGPU; it was the second-fastest CPU of TGL-UP3 line-up when Intel initially launched the series in 2020.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i5-1240P: A mid-range 28 W Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. The i5's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. Core i5-1240P runs at 1.2 GHz to 4.4 GHz; it has a built-in 80 EU Iris Xe GPU and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features.
Intel Raptor Lake-P:
i5-1340P: Raptor Lake-P based CPU with a TDP of 28 Watt. Offers 4 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores and therefore 16 threads.
