Deal | Konami celebrates Castlevania’s 40th anniversary with a free game, retro game sale, and a possible teaser

As the Castlevania franchise approaches its 40^th anniversary, Konami is celebrating with a free game, a game sale, and a possible hint at a new collection. With Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the newest entry in the series, just over 3 weeks from release, fans have plenty to look forward to.

The Original Castlevania is Free on Android and iOS till October 24

The original Castlevania was released on the Famicom Disk System on 26^th September 1986, exactly 40 years ago. To celebrate, Konami is giving away a free port of the original game, titled “Castlevania 40th Anniversary,” on Android and iOS, available for download now.

The app is available to claim for a limited time only, until October 24. After that date, the game will be delisted from both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Only those who claimed the game can reinstall it whenever they want to play again.

Konami is also holding a sale on the following Castlevania games and game collections on the PlayStation Store and Steam:

A New 3D Game Collection Might be on the Cards

In a trailer celebrating the series’ 40^th anniversary, Konami showed artwork from different games in the series. It started off with some artwork from the upcoming Belmont’s Curse game, but followed it with the 2003 PlayStation 2 title Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, 2005’s Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, and finally, 2010’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

None of these three games are officially available on modern consoles or PC (except Lords of Shadow, which is on Steam). Another common factor is that they're all 3D action titles. Konami may release a new collection of these games on modern consoles and PC, aligning with its recent efforts to port classic Castlevania titles to the latest platforms.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is arguably the most famous title in the series, is still not available officially on PC, so fans would definitely appreciate it if Konami decides to release a port of the console version.

Regardless, Castlevania fans definitely have plenty to look forward to. A demo for Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be available to play on October 1, with the progress carrying over to the full game should players decide to purchase it. The demo will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
