After officially unveiling the EV9 in March of this year, Kia has started shipping the first production units of its seven-seater all-electric SUV in Korea, indicating that production is on-track. US and European shipments of the Kia EV9 are set to start sometime in the coming months of 2024, and at least some of the US trims will qualify for federal EV tax incentives.

Kia launched the EV9 all-electric seven-seater SUV in March of 2023, revealing a rather vast SUV with a spacious interior, boxy design, and some neat seating party tricks. When it launched, Kia claimed that deliveries for the EV9 would start in Q3-Q4 of 2023, and those promises seem to have held up, according to reports from The Korea Economic Daily. According to the financial publication, Kia has started deliveries of the EV9 in Korea, although European and American production units are a bit of a mixed bag.

With the EV9, Kia is making a strong effort to qualify for the federal tax incentives for electric vehicles manufactured in the US. Initial US versions of the EV9, arriving later in 2023, will be imported from Korea — meaning no tax incentive — but Kia will shift production to its facility in West Point Georgia in 2024, eventually meeting the requirements for the full US$7,500 federal tax incentive. As for Europe, the EV9 is expected to land around September 2023. The EV9 should come in at around US$51,000 in the US and close to €70,000 in Europe before any tax credits or incentives.

The EV9 is available with both RWD and AWD drive trains, delivering between 220 and 290 miles of range and 204 to 380 hp , depending on the battery and drive train options. Kia also claims that it has tuned the EV9 to deliver best-in-class driving characteristics by lowering the centre of gravity and customising the suspension, tires, and traction control system. Whether the EV9 lives up to its hype is yet to be seen, but it certainly looks like a compelling option for those looking for a larger people-carrier with a different design.
