The KEF Coda W bookshelf speakers aim to impress with a wide range of features and good sound at a relatively affordable price, because at least by KEF standards, $999 for a pair of active speakers is extremely cheap, considering that even the significantly smaller KEF LSX II costs just under $1,500 at Amazon.
Measuring 28.5 x 16.8 x 26.8 centimeters, the Coda W speakers are slightly larger, but also offer a wider range of functions. Bluetooth 5.4 is supported, including Qualcomm aptX Lossless for lossless streaming of CD-quality music. Available ports include HDMI, AUX, Toslink and USB-C, allowing the Coda W to be used as part of a home theater or simply on a desk. A special feature is the integrated phono preamplifier, which allows a turntable to be connected directly to the speakers.
A pity, however, that the Coda W doesn't have Wi-Fi, so it doesn't support services such as Spotify Connect, AirPlay or Google Cast. The speakers house a KEF Uni-Q driver, which combines a 25-millimeter aluminum tweeter with a 130-millimeter magnesium-aluminum woofer. In conjunction with the integrated 100-watt amplifier, this should enable frequencies from 38 Hz to 20 kHz to be reproduced at a volume of up to 102 dB.
