But make no mistake - Akane is not a game without a purpose. The titular character, Akane, is on a mission to seek revenge, bringing doom to members of the Yakuza who assassinated her family. Once the story sets in, the game is practically an endless series of fights, requiring players to survive as long as possible. Most enemies can be finished with one hit only, and the reverse is also true.

Practically unlimited fun

As the game progresses, new gear can be unlocked, allowing the player to tackle five different kinds of enemies with unique traits - Yakuza pawn, tank, shooter, cyber ninja, and the final boss, Katsuro, who evolves with every defeat. As mentioned, the game, Akane, emphasizes stripped-down gameplay, encouraging players to set high scores with no clear ending in sight.

While some may find the lack of a proper storyline disappointing, others may adore the game's infinite nature, particularly competitive folks who enjoy the hack-and-slash genre and do not mind the seemingly endless swarms of enemies. The arcade action game is clearly a lot of fun, indicated by the title's "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam, courtesy of its 95% positive reviews. Screen Rant did not hold back its praise either, admiring Akane's "infinite replayability".
