Intel is retiring several of its recent product series, including last year's Lakefield architecture. Unsurprisingly, Intel has opted to cease production of the Comet Lake-U and Ice Lake-U series, both of which the company has since replaced with Tiger Lake-U.
While Intel has discontinued the three series from today, it will stop shipping these SKUs in April 2022. You can view the SKUs that Intel has retired in the images below. Intel has not explained why it has discontinued these products, although we imagine that 12th Generation Core processors will have started appearing by early Q2 2022.

Intel only ever launched two Lakefield processors, the Core i3-L13G4 and the Core i5-L16G7. None impressed performance-wise, as the tables below demonstrate. Lakefield processors fall short of their competitors on all counts, whether that be from AMD, Apple or even Intel itself. The Core i5-L16G7 managed only meagre battery life in the Galaxy Book S too, failing to match its Qualcomm-powered twin.
Overall, Lakefield was somewhat of a flop for Intel, which may explain why the company decided to axe it so soon after its release. Hopefully, its next hybrid architecture, Alder Lake, proves more competitive when it launches later this year.
