The demand for increased storage space is growing from year to year, especially in the mobile device world. More pictures, 1080p videos and apps tend to pile up fast on a smartphone and the constant need to delete or move content could prove to be a chore. The largest capacity currently available for microSD cards is 400 GB, but this will soon change when the jump to 512 GB will be made. Among the first companies to offer 512 GB microSDXC cards is Integral Memory from the UK, which scheduled their release for February this year.
Integral states that the reading speeds can reach 90 MB/s, but only mentions that the write speeds are lower. The 512 GB card comes with HC/XC Class 10, UHS-I Class 1 and Video Speed class 10 specs and is compatible with smartphones, tablets, cameras, drones and security/ surveillance devices. Additionally, Integral Memory will offer an On-the-Go USB Card Reader that features dual USB connectors for fast data transfers between devices.
No word on pricing at the moment, but seeing that a 400 GB SanDisk microSDXC card is selling for US$235, the 512 GB card could have and MSRP of around US$300.
