Initial AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT prices rubbish US$199 MSRP
A few days ago, Cowcotland claimed that the Radeon RX 6500 XT would be available for €299 in the Eurozone, currently equivalent to US$340 including sales taxes. For reference, reducing that figure by 20% for VAT yields US$272, way above AMD's recommended US$199 price.
ASUS has now confirmed that this is the case with the pricing of the Dual Radeon RX 6500 XT and TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6500 XT in Germany. According to a press release, the former will retail for €299 and will be available from January 19. However, the TUF Gaming edition, also orderable from January 19, will cost €334. In other words, ASUS will sell an RX 6500 XT SKU for over US$300, excluding VAT. For reference, Germany charges 19% for standard VAT.
The Radeon RX 6500 XT has 4 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, purportedly to deter crypto miners. AMD will not rule out releasing 8 GB variants, though. AMD markets the RX 6500 XT as a 1080p graphics card, and one that can play many popular games at high settings. Examples given include Halo Infinite, Resident Evil Village and Farming Simulator 22, among others.
Incidentally, AMD still has to release the RX 6400, announced at CES 2022. For some reason, the company chose not to confirm either a release date or a price tag, which we speculated could cost about US$150. AMD is expected to begin selling the RX 6400 in March.
