GPU shortage: Not even scalpers can find the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT
Despite a cryptocurrency market which has become much weaker over the past few months, graphics cards are still a hot commodity among gamers as well as cryptominers. The supply shortage of capable GPUs obviously keeps their prices high, and many probably blame greedy scalpers for this unfortunate situation which has forced countless gamers to postpone their planned hardware upgrades.
However, there is a GPU that even most scalpers are apparently unable to find anywhere. According to a report by Tom's Hardware, the newly launched Radeon RX 6500 XT was only offered by a total of eight scalpers on eBay, which has since increased by just a single listing. This further illustrates the incredibly poor availability of AMD's latest but certainly not greatest graphics card that has mostly received negative reviews due to its poor performance. According to some reviews, it can barely match five year old GPUs like the RX 480 in some benchmarks.
The few scalpers who somehow managed to snatch a Radeon RX 6500 XT meanwhile offer them for US$350 to US$500 on eBay, a steep asking price for the poorly performing GPU with a MSRP of US$200. Tom's Hardware also notes that the two only RX 6500 XT models that are currently listed by scalpers seem to be Gigabyte's questionable Gaming OC version as well as PowerColor's smallish ITX variant. It remains to be seen if the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT's availability will eventually improve, or if one of the worst new gaming GPUs in the market will continue to be in short supply even among scalpers.
