Hypixel Studios rolls out Hytale Update 3 as developers warn features may be temporary

Ever since Hytale’s early access went public on January 13, fans have fallen in love with the familiar yet refreshing sandbox title. Hypixel Studios is currently keeping the momentum going by rolling out consistent updates, fixes, new features, and quality-of-life improvements to pave the way for a full release. However, some of these quality-of-life additions are merely temporary boosts that will be dialed back once the game approaches a full release.
With Hytale out for only a month, the third major update has already dropped, adding features such as improved notifications when players sleep in beds, refinements to UI navigation, and enhancements to inventory management and building that players have been requesting from the developers.
However, lead developer Collins-Laflamme cautions players not to get too comfortable with the current state of Hytale or its current lineup of features, as more updates are on the horizon. According to Collins-Laflamme, Hytale will be vastly different in its gameplay mechanics a year from now.
In a recent message to the community via X, Collins-Laflamme said, “The way you play the game is going to look very different a year from now.” Hypixel Studios is carefully considering player feedback to help prioritize what needs to be addressed.
Collins-Laflamme further explained in his post, “We’re currently working on many changes, and thanks to all your feedback and suggestions, we have a much better idea of what to prioritize.” The studio is currently focusing on problems that are “quick ones that solve real pain points today, even when they aren’t the long-term answer.”
An apparent example of an upcoming quality-of-life update is the addition of infinite water. According to the lead developer:
“Infinite water is likely to be added in an upcoming update. Hauling buckets back and forth just to fill a pond is tedious, and draining rivers and lakes doesn’t look good either. However, water may become a valuable resource in future systems, so an infinite supply may not last forever. But for now, it’ll make your life a lot easier.”
As Hytale continues to grow, water could become a key element in larger mechanics like farming and crafting, which would make infinite water feel out of place later on.
Collins-Laflamme continued, “As the game’s systems get deeper, some of these early quality-of-life add-ons will need to change, and when they do, we’ll always aim to replace them with something equal or better through real gameplay.”
Hytale is currently playable on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and while it does not appear on the Steam storefront, it can be downloaded directly and played on the Steam Deck using the Linux launcher.
