Huawei's new laptop bring a key Galaxy S26 Ultra display feature to laptops

Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra made hardware-level screen privacy a mainstream talking point earlier this year, and Huawei is now extending that concept to the laptop form factor with the MateBook Pro S.

The S26 Ultra introduced what Samsung calls Flex Magic Pixel technology, which blacks out the display when viewed from side angles without requiring a physical privacy filter. Huawei's approach on the MateBook Pro S follows similar logic: an innovative dual-pixel design integrates two independent sets of pixels into the same OLED panel, one for standard sharing mode and one for a privacy view visible only to the person directly in front of the screen. A dedicated one-click switch toggles between modes, and the display can also detect when someone is looking over the user's shoulder and alert the user.

Huawei also draws a direct comparison with Samsung's implementation. A promotional slide for the MateBook Pro S shows that, in privacy mode, the Lingdun panel maintains 100% pixel utilization, while what it labels the "S-brand phone pixel design"—an apparent reference to the Galaxy S26 Ultra's Flex Magic Pixel technology—operates at 50% pixel utilization in the same mode. The trade-off on Samsung's side is a reduction in brightness and resolution when privacy mode is active; Huawei claims its single-zone dual-pixel architecture avoids this penalty entirely.

The 14.2-inch OLED panel has a resolution of 3,120 × 2,080 pixels and a 3:2 aspect ratio, along with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 1,600-nit peak HDR brightness. Housed in a 798 g magnesium-lithium chassis and running HarmonyOS 6.1, the laptop is powered by Huawei's Kirin XE90, which the company says delivers 23% higher single-core performance and 40% faster NPU throughput than its predecessor. The Privacy Screen Edition starts at 10,299 yuan (approximately $1,525) for the configuration with 24 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, and at 11,799 yuan (approximately $1,745) for the configuration with 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. It is available now in China.
