The Huawei Y7 Prime is a solid daily driver with capable specs and a big battery. It’s perfect for those who need a smartphone that can handle day-to-day tasks like heavy social media browsing, photography, and gaming without having to recharge every now and then. Compared to more powerful and more expensive devices, it’s not going to wow users, but for Php9,990, it certainly gets the job done.

Huawei’s been on the offensive the past few months. After outing their excellent Nova 2i a few weeks ago and the announcement of their new flagship phone, the Chinese company is now setting its sights on the budget part of the market. With their GR5 2017 starting to grow long in the tooth, Huawei has turned to a new weapon in the form of the Y7 Prime. While the Y7 Prime doesn’t have fancy features like dual cameras and an 18:9 display, it still offers a solid set of specs at a relatively reasonable price point.

Convincing. The Huawei Y7 aims to convince its buyers with a metal case, a strong processor, and a large battery. While these assets are good, the competition in the 200-Euro price range (~$238) is strong. You can find out in our test how the Huawei Y7 fares.

The story of the Y7 is very much told when looking at the competition. The competitors are, for the most part, currently offering more for either the same price, or just a little extra – more resolution, more memory, even more camera sensors – the only place the Y7 truly shines is the battery which is something.

So, is the Huawei Y7 fifty per cent better than the Huawei Y5 2017? No, of course not. If I had to put a figure on it, I’d say it’s two hundred and fifty per cent better.

The Huawei Y7 Prime is a competent budget phone from the Chinese brand, but it finds itself outshone from both outside and within. The Moto G6 Play does similar things with more poise, but even if you particularly like Huawei’s style you can get the same for less or more for the same under the Honor sub-brand.

Looking at the specs of the Huawei Y7 Prime (2018), you'd think it's got everything covered. Delving deeper, however, we discovered that in practice it doesn't really live up to the expectations. In fact, it puts out a below average performance in the three areas we consider the most important - display, battery life, and camera.

Huawei Y7 Pro 2019
The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is a mid-range smartphone with display as the main highlight. It features good performance as well as appearance, making it a great phone for budget users. The simple design of the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 reveals its elegance in a rather different way. The curved rear cover with polished ceramic-like texture and smooth touch, gives users a unique and comfortable feeling in their hand. The Y7 Pro is available in two colors, namely Aurora Blue, and Midnight Black. The Y7 Pro measures 158.92 x 76.91 x 8.10 mm and weighs 168.00 grams. It features a wide 6.26-inch Dewdrop display, which provides a clear and broader view for a better mobile experience. The 1520 x 720 HD+ IPS screen reveals greater saturation, more clarity and natural colors from any viewing angle. The Huawei smartphone also features easy mode. The larger font, bigger icons and louder volume in Easy Mode provide a better experience for those who need it, especially elderly users. The simplified interface will make navigating the phone stress-free and easy to understand. As for the camera, the 16 MP front camera features automatic retouching to deliver perfect photos. There is no need to edit photos because selfies are already tailored to reflect the most beautiful appearance. The Y7 Pro on the rear packs a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a second 2-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera setup has autofocus. Delivering performance is the efficient and intelligent Qualcomm 450 Octa Core chipset with 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM, which can deliver a smooth experience while users are running multiple apps. It is a little surprising for Huawei to choose a Qualcomm chipset compared instead of Huawei’s own Hisilicon Kirin chip. The Y7 Pro 2019 supports up to 512 GB MicroSD card to store whatever users need. As for software, the Y7 Pro runs EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Powering the Y7 Pro is the impressive 4,000 mAh battery with AI power saving technology. Hence, users can travel worry-free and enjoy life without stopping to frequently recharge. Besides that, Face Unlock 2.0 can quickly unlock from multiple angles for a conveniently safe and secure way to protect user’s information. As a conclusion, the Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is a great smartphone for budget users. It makes a good choice for elderly users, as well as any other users on a budget. The great display, attractive design and mid-range performance can definitely satisfy users who do simple tasks on their phone, such as messaging, browsing and streaming. The Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 is a mixture of good and bad components. The display is bright and vibrant, but it’s still at 720p resolution. The performance is decent and relatively fast thanks to its Snapdragon 450 chipset and 3GB RAM. The camera, on the other hand, is a roller coaster ride as the overall rear photos are sub-par to par only while the front camera is decent and good. Lastly, its battery life is impressive since it lasts longer than most competing smartphones in this price segment.

Today we’ll be taking a quick look at Huawei’s recently announced, budget big-batteried phone, the Y7 Pro 2019. The new phone compliments the company’s Y6 Pro 2019 that’s aimed at the lower-end of the sub 10K market, and wants to draw in consumers with its large screen, pretty exterior and higher than average battery endurance. Priced at Php Php 9,990, it’s a legitimate challenger to budget big-batteried offerings of its rivals like ASUS’ ZenFone Max M2.

More related to software, Y7 Prime 2019 has built-in face unlocking. Huawei is calling it Face Unlock 2.0 but actually the performance is quite slow. There is a good bit of delay before the smartphone recognizes and unlocks. This might be due to the lower-end processor but then again, presence of this recent unlock method on a budget smartphone is great in itself. Reliability, however, is great and it works well in different lighting conditions.

In this article we will take you through the complete Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 unboxing experience. Not only that, but we will also discuss our initial reviews about the new budget series smartphone. Starting with the device’s placement, Y7 Prime 2019 is designed to succeed the older Y7 Prime 2018 which means there is a previous set benchmark which this phone needs to beat. Further, a key characteristic for all Huawei Y phones is the price-to-hardware ratio so the new Y7 Prime 2019 should hold strong in that department as well. Let’s now head on to unbox Y7 Prime 2019 from Huawei.

Further, a key characteristic for all Huawei Y phones is the price-to-hardware ratio so the new Y7 Prime 2019 should hold strong in that department as well. Huawei Y7p
Huawei has released yet another variant in its Y series just weeks after the release of the Huawei Y9. The Huawei Y7P is known as a new budget smartphone with triple cameras. The price is considered to be quite low compared to its predecessor, although the device features the same Kirin 710F chipset as the Y9. The Kirin 710 chipset might not be as powerful as the Kirin 900 series chipsets, but it caters well for general daily tasks. The design that comes with a holographic-like effect on the back is definitely something to look out for in terms of design creativity. It incorporates a plastic shell with nice gradient coloring at the back, paired with a glossy finishing. The Huawei 7YP has very limited color variations, which include only two options, namely Aurora Blue for the creatively minded and Midnight Black for a much simpler look. As far as the colors are concerned, Aurora Blue has the glossiest finish, while the Midnight Black version tends to cater a much simpler design by sporting an all-black colorway.
The glossy finish serves not only the physical presentation, as this kind of finish makes it rather easy to pick up and respond to fingerprints. The physical rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is definitely reliable and fast and, unlike face unlock, this feature works even when there is an absence of light. Apart from that, the 6.39-inch screen size promises a premium user experience with its awesome display. The LCD display deserves ultimate credit for the good color reproduction, saturation and contrast that it provides at such an affordable price. It also provides awesome viewing angles. Other than that, the Huawei 7YP also houses a large 4,000mAh battery for an improved user experience with ease of charging.
The triple-lens camera at the back of the phone was intended for ultra-wide and portrait shots with a single front-facing camera for all the selfie lovers out there. The one thing that makes the 7YP the most affordable phone with a high-resolution sensor is the incorporation of a 48-megapixel camera sensor. The night mode with low-light capability brings a combination of AI stabilized technology with an extended exposure time of 6 seconds. This creates the possibility of acquiring much brighter and more detailed night shots. As for the gamers out there, the 7YP deserves attention as it can run some of the most demanding games, such as Black Desert Mobile, Asphalt 9 and Blade of God, at decent frame rates. In addition, the Huawei Y7P also supports High Frame Rate mode on Mobile Legends. However, it should be noted that the Huawei 7YP does not come with the Google Play Store. Therefore, the only way to discover and download mobile apps is through Huawei's AppGallery.

A couple of weeks ago, Huawei launched a new member on its Y series of smartphones, the Huawei Y7p. It packs a 6.39-inch display with a 1560 x 720 resolution, 4,000mAh battery, a hole-punch display, and a Kirin 710F processor, paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage.

If the lack of GMS doesn’t deter you from getting the device, then go right ahead and cop the Y7p as it’s still a pretty good device. Although, if you’re uncertain in dealing with all that no GMS issue, you may want to consider other smartphones such as the Realme 5 and the Honor 20 Lite, that are in the same price range as the Huawei Y7p.

The biggest hurdle with the Y7p is its lack of access to GMS. Thre are ways around it thanks to Huawei’s App Gallery and the eventual workarounds that’ll pop up once the phone is in circulation, but it’s still an annoying hurdle that some customers will have to endure.

Huawei's attempt at predicting the future with the P smart 2021 isn't entirely failed - it's not a bad phone, and with the right carrier subsidy, could make a fine daily driver for a less demanding user. It's got properly excellent battery life, a decent camera system, and a display that gets very accurate with a minor tweak.

At this point, we don’t think that the lack of Google Mobile Services is much of a disadvantage since the AppGallery and the Petal Search Widget offer all the apps you need. We understand where the reluctance is coming from, but it would be a waste not to give the Y7a a chance.

With the sub-Php 10k segment being more competitive than ever, the Y7a proves that Huawei has a strong entry in this highly lucrative segment. It is really nice to see features that used to be found on Huawei’s more premium phones to trickle down to the Y7a: these include a Full HD+ display, 22.5w SuperCharge wired charging, 48-megapixel main rear camera, and support for 60FPS shooting at Full HD.

Huawei’s latest budget offering incorporates a lot of features normally found on its higher-end devices like 22.5w USB-C charging, 48-megapixel main camera, and a full HD+ display. Priced at just Php Php 8,999, the Y7a looks to be a compelling offering for people who are looking for a budget phone that packs a lot of features.

68.6%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
