Honor launches Magic9 Super Edition with a massive 11,000mAh battery

Honor has launched the Magic9 Super Edition in China, a battery-focused addition to its new flagship line built around an 11,000mAh cell. Prices start at ¥4,499 ($670).

The phone launched alongside the Magic9 and the Magic9 Pro Max. Its starting price sits ¥500 below that of the standard Magic9, which opens at ¥4,999 (about $745), making the Super Edition the least expensive model in the series.

The battery supports 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. Honor fits it into a body measuring 161.78 x 76.72 x 8.1mm that weighs about 227g. At 8.1mm, the Super Edition is thinner than both the 8.49mm Magic9 and the 8.59mm Magic9 Pro Max, despite carrying more battery capacity than either.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which debuted last year, powers the handset in place of the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 found in the Pro Max. Honor pairs the chip with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage. Heat management relies on a wind-tunnel fan working with a board-level cooling system, and the phone also carries Honor’s Phantom Engine 3.0 and its C3 RF enhancement chip.

The 6.81-inch flat OLED has a resolution of 2788 x 1280 and a 120Hz refresh rate. It reaches 2,000 nits of global peak brightness and up to 10,000 nits in localized areas. Honor uses 3840Hz PWM dimming and a 1-nit minimum brightness to reduce eye strain. The panel shows 1.07 billion colors with DCI-P3 coverage, and its 1.03mm bezels produce a 95.5% screen-to-body ratio.

A 200MP Samsung S5KHP5 sensor anchors the rear camera. It measures 1/1.55 inches and sits behind an f/1.9 aperture with optical image stabilization. A 50MP Sony LYTIA 500 telephoto provides 3x optical zoom, also with OIS, while a 12MP ultrawide supports autofocus. The front camera uses a 50MP sensor, and video recording reaches 4K at up to 120fps.

According to GSMArena, the Super Edition uses the same Honor H1 imaging chip as the standard Magic9 and works with Honor’s G200 teleconverter.

The phone runs MagicOS 11 based on Android 17. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an infrared remote control, and dual SIM. Honor fits an optical in-display fingerprint sensor, where the Magic9 and Magic9 Pro Max use ultrasonic readers, along with stereo speakers, a dedicated AI key and IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings.

The entry model pairs 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The 12GB and 512GB version costs ¥4,999 (about $745), and the 16GB and 512GB version costs ¥5,499 (about $819). Honor has not released a 1TB configuration. Color options are Popcorn Yellow, Curtain Black, Olive Green, and a white finish called Opening Statement.

The Magic9 Super Edition is available to pre-order in China. Honor has not announced plans to sell it in other markets.
