The Honor V30 Pro boasts high-end specs and performed impressively well in our main camera test. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for its selfie cam performance. While the V30 Pro is capable of recording decent selfie video, with good detail and stabilization, it’s far from the best in this category, and its still images leave even more room for improvement. Color issues, a narrow depth of field, and an overzealous beautification effect all make for a sub-par selfie user experience. The Honor V30 Pro rear cam is still an excellent option for many users, but if selfie pictures and videos are a priority, better options are currently available.

By choosing to equip its latest flagship with a single speaker, Honor greatly affected the V30 Pro’s playback performance. A lack of low-end extension and excessive compression at high volumes also impair its timbre, dynamics, volume, and artifacts performances. However, the Honor V30 Pro’s microphones deliver outstanding tonal balance, excellent spatial capture, and faithful dynamics. In the recording area, these category-leading sub-scores, along with good overall loudness, few artifacts, and a very natural background rendering make Honor’s low-cost flagship simply the best.

Once again, if you are living outside of China, the Honor V30 Pro is a no-go as of the time of writing this. But even if it had the necessary Google certification, the handset feels like it’s out of touch with the recent smartphone trends. Instead of offering a competitive OLED panel, even if it’s not 90Hz, Honor's 16:9 Cine Lens camera is something no one asked for. Not to mention the main camera shoots better videos than this video-oriented ultra-wide camera.

Jumping almost to the very top of our rankings, the Honor V30 Pro is going to catch the eye of smartphone photography enthusiasts, as it delivers comparable or better image quality than some of the more expensive flagship competition, with excellent zoom, bokeh, night, and flash shots. Some very minor autofocus instabilities prevented it from securing the top spot in our ranking, however; and if ultra-wide-angle shots are a key consideration, make sure the 16:9 ratio output suits your needs.

As far as the international availability goes, the plans at the moment are unclear, considering Huawei/Honor's ongoing legal issues with the US and trouble licensing Google services. Still, if the V30 and V30 Pro do eventually manage to cross over to the Old Continent, we expect it will be under the View 30 and View 30 Pro branding. And that's about as much as we can speculate on the matter.

The super macro lens of the HonorV40 is also very good. By controlling the distance between the lens and the object to be shot at about 4 cm, you can capture the details of the surface of the object. For example, the real size of leaves in the macrostate is only the size of a fingernail, but after the macro shooting, you can see that the lines on the surface of the leaves are very clear, and many details are well represented. Honor V40 multi-picture appreciation, the photo effects in outdoor and indoor environments, both show very professional photo effects.

The HONOR V Purse is… well, it’s an interesting phone, first and foremost. This device started off as a concept phone, as HONOR was unsure whether to launch it or not. It decided to push it to the market, but only in its homeland, China. The company is trying to see what works, probably, and how will the consumers react to something like this. If we push the accessory with a chain to the side, this is a nice outwards-folding device. Sure, it doesn’t exactly have flagship specs, but it will sure grab people’s attention. On top of that, it’s one of the most compact foldables on the market, at least as far as flip phones are concerned. It’s difficult to explain how thin this phone feels in the hand even when folded. We have a different experience here that may appeal to some of you. It’s always interesting to see different products, especially when they’re actually good, so we’re definitely glad HONOR decided to push the HONOR V Purse to the market.

According to industry surveys, 44.6% of consumers believe that the reason why foldable screen mobile phones have not become popular is “poor experience”. The oversized screen, thick and heavy, will make it difficult for some female users to use the phone. Among them, The inconvenience of carrying is also one of the important reasons. In order to change the market structure, Honor has promoted the development of folding products with the concept of “light, thin, and large foldable”. Its birth reflects Honor’s in-depth understanding and unique insights into the female user group who pursue fashion and taste and also brings a new choice to trendy users who pursue tasteful dressing. I believe that the launch of Honor V Purse will lead the trend of technology and fashion, making digital products such as mobile phones gradually become the new darling of the fashion industry.

Honor V Purse is a completely new concept in the smartphone market and it could be a game-changing product for the company. However, if we strictly look at the technical aspect, the hardware and camera aspects of this phone are underwhelming as compared to other devices present in the same price range. Plus, it’s only available in China. Thus, it would be difficult to purchase this device for other markets. Apart from this, the display only supports a 90Hz refresh rate which felt quite disappointing. On top of that, there’s no alternative option if you are looking for a similar concept device. Instead, you can check out other foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 if you are searching for better specs and features but you have to pay more. The alternative beats Honor V Purse in terms of overall user experience. Anyway, the final decision is up to you so choose a device based on your requirements and needs.

Not exactly my cup of tea but you get the idea. You’ll also be able to have different screens on each side of the phone. Detailed specifications are, alas, somewhat thin on the ground, beyond a promise that the phone will be 9.9mm thin; Honor has no plan to bring this to market at all. All of which begs the question as to why bother announcing it at all. I suspect it’s a bit of a toe in the water to see what the reaction to it is, to see how it’s received amongst smartphone fans. Maybe, just maybe, at a technology trade show at some point in the future, we’ll actually see one of these launched that’s available to buy.

This week we check out the Honor V Purse concept phone and a bunch of other bits from IFA 2023, the tech expo in Berlin. The Honor V Purse is a particularly bonkers foldable smartphone with a similar design to the Huawei Mate XS, with a large bendy screen that stretches around the outside. Here’s a closer look, but don’t save up your cash for one. This isn’t coming to UK stores - but hopefully it’ll actually launch as a fully-fledged phone in one form or another soon. We also have a squint at the TCL 40 NxtPaper phone, and a Tecno rollable handset called the Phantom Ultimate - again, just a concept sadly! Let us know what you think of the Honor V Purse and the other bits below, and check out my other videos from IFA 2023 including a look at the Lenovo Legion Go and JBL’s latest PartyBox Ultimate speaker.

79%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
